Summer in the Pyrénées-Oriéntales

Set in an exceptional location, between the sea and the mountains, the Pyrénées Orientales offer an abundance of activities in summer time. Benefitting from a rich cultural and natural heritage, from medieval fortified villages to more modern spa towns, there are plenty of attractions, festivals, concerts and shows.


The numerous beach resorts offer a great number of activities for children and the whole family: water sports, aqua parks, adventure parks, fairgrounds, etc. The evenings are often animated with outdoor concerts, shows and evening markets.


Further inland in the valleys and the mountains, there are several lakes such as Villeneuve de la Raho, St-Jean Pla de Corts, Vinça and Matemale with plenty to do such as water sports, aqua park, tyrolean splash, teleski nautique.


The Pyrénées Orientales are home to several nature reserves and a marine reserve where nature lovers can enjoy walks, hiking, adventure and animal parks, to bathing and relaxing in the natural hot springs and roman baths.


The area is also famous for its Catalan gastronomy and wines. The summer “aperitifs de terroir” in the vineyards are not to be missed! Festivals abound in the area celebrating the rich cultural and artistic heritage, blending the beauty of the past with modern art and music.




Here are just a few of the major events this summer in the Pyrénées Orientales :


8th MUSICAL FESTIVAL ETE 66 in Perpignan From 22 June to 1 August 2015. Hosting world renowned singers, musicians, orchestras, shows as well as local artists at famous historic sites like the Palais des Rois de Majorque, Chateau Royal de Collioure, Prieuré de Serrabonne.


9th DEFERLANTES FESTIVAL in Argelès-sur-Mer From the 10-17 July 2015. Hosting various renowned musical groups such as Lenny Kravitz, Placebo, Santana, Etienne Daho, Julien Dore, and many more.


58th SARDANES FESTIVAL in Céret From 17 July to 19 July 2015. Traditional Catalan folk dance with its lovely colours and sounds.


20th “LES JEUDIS DE PERPIGNAN” FESTIVAL From 23 July to 27 August 2015. Every thursday evening in the streets of Perpignan, a variety of music, shows, and theatre performances by local, national, and international artists.


58th  PABLO CASALS FESTIVAL in Prades From 26 July to13 August 2015. World renowned classical and contemporary chamber music festival created by the famous Catalan cellist. Visit website.


27th VISA POUR L’IMAGE in Perpignan From 29 August to 13 September 2015. International Festival of Photojournalism with photo exhibitions, symposiums and conferences in major historic sites across the city. Visit website.
